APPLICATION PROCESS

Inside Wireman applications must be completed in person.  Applications are accepted the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month, from 1pm – 4pm at the San Joaquin Electrical Training Institute. Located at 1531 El Pinal Dr. Stockton, CA 95205  Except for your sealed transcripts, and DMV Driver History Report original documents should be color copied PRIOR to arrival. You may download and print the application forms prior to arrival.  Electricians perform many physically demanding tasks. These include, but are not limited to: digging and working in trenches; carrying materials and tools; using hand and power tools; moving heavy electrical equipment; lifting, positioning and fastening electrical equipment; working at various heights from ladders, scaffolds and suspension systems; crawling under floors and working in attics; working indoors or out, sometimes in extremes of hot, cold, wet or dry weather; and installing, troubleshooting and repairing motors, transformers, electrical fixtures and conduit.

You’ve already taken the first step toward this fulfilling career by coming to the official website of the San Joaquin and Calaveras Counties Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) Apprenticeship Program, a joint training program provided by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 595 and the Northern California Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The San Joaquin/Calaveras JATC will give you the opportunity to get the right experience for a career in the exciting electrical construction industry and you get paid while you get the training. OVERVIEW

  • Earn while you learn – On the Job Training (approx. 40 hours per week)
  • Related training – approximately 200 hours per year
  • Starting hourly rate – currently $21.35/hour + Benefits
  • Length of Apprenticeship Program = 5 years
  • No cost or fees for Program/Training to you

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Must appear in person to complete an application form
  • Must provide a copy of a high school diploma or G.E.D. at time of application
  • Must provide high school or College transcripts showing that you have passed Algebra with a “C” Grade or better (one full year of high school or one semester of College at time of application
  • Must provide a current (no older than 30 days) DMV printout for your driving history at time of application
  • Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade and be willing and able to attend ALL required classes or related instruction
  • Individuals who can verify (by providing undisputable evidence) that they have worked 4000 hours specifically in the electrical construction trade will qualify for an oral interview
  • Military Veterans:  Submit a detailed DD-214 to verify any military training and/or experience if you are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience

To apply: 

  1. Complete an application form. 
  2. Be at least 18 years old or older. 
  3. Provide a valid driver’s license & DMV Drivers History Report 
  4. Provide a copy of your high school diploma, college degree, or GED certificate. 
  5. Provide an official transcript with the school’s seal showing: Completion of 1 year of high school algebra or 1 semester of college algebra with a grade of C or better.

Other methods to qualify: 

Military Veterans: Apply as above (steps 1, 2, & 3 only) and provide a DD-214 with a honorable discharge, 3 years of service or 6 years of reserve, and a date of separation within the last 5 years.

Prior Experience: Apply as above (steps 1, 2, & 3 only) and document work of a minimum of four thousand (4000) hours specifically in the electrical construction industry for a C-10 contractor. You may download the documentation worksheet here.

The San Joaquin Electrical Training Institute (SJETI) is jointly sponsored by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and is administered by the San Joaquin and Calaveras Counties Electrical Join Apprenticeship Training Committee.

After Application:

Aptitude Test: Applicants will be notified of a date to take the NJATC Aptitude Test. The Test takes approximately 2½ hours to complete and consists of Algebra, Technical Mathematics, and Reading Comprehension. Applicants will be notified of their test results. An applicant who does not pass the test may apply to re-test after 6 months have elapsed. 

Oral Interview: Applicants who pass the Aptitude Test will be scheduled for an in-person interview. Each applicant will be scored individually based upon their interview. The interview score will determine each applicant’s ranking in the pool of qualified candidates. 

Selection: Applicants will be selected in order of their ranking. Prior to being indentured, each applicant will be required to provide satisfactory results of a drug test provided by the JATC. 

Acceptance into the apprenticeship program is competitive and can, at times, have a lengthy backlog of applicants. Although prior experience in the electrical construction industry may be beneficial, the backlog for scheduling the mandatory Aptitude Testing and Interview can be many months in duration and qualified applicants are hired on an as need basis.
